About · A rare species, reintroduced

Coffee built for a changing climate.

Nearly all coffee comes from two species. We brought back a third — and we’re planting it where the future of coffee can actually grow.

01 · Mission

Why a third species.

The two species behind 99% of the world’s coffee — arabica and robusta — are increasingly fragile in a warming climate. Yields are slipping. Disease pressure is rising. Smallholder farmers, who grow most of the world’s coffee, carry the cost.

Excelsa is structurally different. The species is heat-tolerant, disease-resistant, and produces a smoother, naturally lower-caffeine cup. It is not a marketing story — it is a fact of the species, the way steel is a fact of a building.

Our role is simple: reintroduce Excelsa at scale, on regenerative agroforestry farms, with the partners best placed to grow it well.

02 · Our approach

Regenerative, by structure.

Canopy · Mid-altitude

Agroforestry, not monoculture.

Excelsa is grown under a multi-layer canopy of native trees. Shade lowers heat stress, deeper root systems improve water retention, and biodiversity returns to soils that have spent decades under monoculture.

Soil first, yield second.

Every conversion begins with the ground. We work with farmers on cover-cropping, composting, and minimal tillage — reading soil as a living system and rebuilding what conventional production exhausts.

Long partnerships, not short contracts.

Our commitment doesn’t end at planting. We maintain long-term relationships with farmers — fair pricing, quality standards, and continuous agricultural innovation, season after season.

04 · Principles

Four lines we won’t cross.

01

Quietly rare.

We don’t shout about scarcity. We let the product speak, and let the speaker-at-the-back-of-the-room understand anyway.

02

Structurally honest.

Climate resilience is not a story. It is a fact of the species. We talk about it the way a material engineer talks about steel.

03

Accessibly refined.

Excelsa is for every morning, not just the tasting room. Our design stays welcoming while our standards stay exacting.

04

Built to last.

We design partnerships, fields, and brands for ten years from now — not the next season’s news cycle.
